Aura32

Roadmap

Where it’s going

What’s being worked on, what comes next, and what Aura32 will never do.

Now

More of the apps people use

Popular free Windows apps are tested again and again. What the most apps still miss is ranked and fixed first, so every round helps the most programs. Latest numbers.

32-bit programs

32-bit programs run and their installers install. Still to come: the last missing pieces, so more older programs and installers work.

Newer desktop frameworks

More apps built on Microsoft’s WinUI 3, and desktop apps on the .NET Framework 4.8 with WPF.

Next

A first public release

Until then there’s nothing to download. Get started shows how it will work.

Direct3D 12

Direct3D 9 to 11 already run through DXVK. Programs and games that need Direct3D 12 come later.

Never

Aura32 implements Windows faithfully so that programs, and Microsoft’s own services, can run. It never works around protection:

  • No Windows kernel drivers, so no kernel anti-cheat.
  • No decryption of protected software, no licence bypassing and no key extraction, so Store and Game Pass games stay out of reach.
  • No code from Microsoft or from other implementations.

Why apps first

It’s no longer a graphics problem.

Games on Linux mostly run today. Professional apps still fail, and rarely because of graphics: they fail at sign-in windows built on WebView2, app packages, background services and GPU compute. Those are exactly the parts Aura32 is built around.
